Mantids are fascinating insects, apparently fearless in exhibiting threat display behaviour regardless of the size of their opponent. They are superbly adapted predators. Generally, their diet is other insects but larger species will feast on lizards, frogs, and even small birds.
Based on Mantis religiosa the length of the head and body of this sculpture is 14.5 cm. Somewhat oversized as large females attain about 9cm in reality.
